Online Lesson Website - Final Idea
a) Purpose:
The purpose behind the idea of having an Online Lesson website is simply that it gives anyone interested in learning an opportunity to learn something without having to go to a course in real life. They have the ability to look up the website and go through a large variety of topics and study in detail what they are looking to learn from it.
On the other hand, the website gives a large opportunity for a range of adults to have a career in teaching, which they might not have been able to pursue through College and University.
b) Content/Format/Style:
The content that is going to be on this website is going to be a large variety of different lessons which anyone is able to access. These lessons are going to be groups into their specific genre. Alternatively, there are going to be 5 extra lessons at the bottom of each category. These are for people who pay a membership for the website, which is completely optional.
The format for the website is going to be very simple. There is going to be a menu bar along the top of the page which has all of the different tabs on. There is going to be about one inch either side of the page for advertising. Then in-between these advertisements is where the main lesson categories are going to be as you scroll down the page.
The fonts for the website are going to be different and alternate accordingly with the type of lesson. For example, for the Art Genre, the font is going to be very stylish and almost stereotypical for a Art font.
The style for the website is going to be quite simplistic. When the website is loaded in, the different lesson genre types are going to be listed by the genre category in alphabetical order. The page is going to be scrolling and there is going to be a picture next to some text, which is briefly describing what is in this genre category. The picture is going to be representing the category. This is not a very important feature but it gives that little bit more detail. Each category is going to switch sides of the screen as you scroll down the website.
c) Target User/Membership:
The Target Audience for this website is going to have an age range which consists of 18 - 35 year olds. The reason for having quite a large-scale age range is due to the fact that this is aimed towards both students and adults who have an interest in teaching.
Membership's are going to be optional with the website. Having a membership on this website allows anyone to have 5 additional lessons in that category. These extra lessons are going to go into a lot more detail that previous lessons. The membership is going to be a monthly costing payment of only £7.99 a month. The reason for this membership being fairly cheap is that the website is not going to have been open long and to begin with not many people are going to want to pay for a membership.
d) Production Plan
Pre-Production: This pre-production segment of the production is going to include all of the things that are going to be key when making the website. Idea Planning, Mock Ups, Initial Design.
Production: This stage is going to be where the design for the website begins to take place. Programs such as Adobe Photoshop are going to be used to create the look for the website and then I will begin working on the actual website once I am happy with how the final design looks.
Post-Production: At this stage of the process, the website will be fully functional and I am going to be testing it as much as I can to see if I am able to find any faults with it. If any faults are found, I will spend the time in this production stage to make sure that they are fixed before launch date on November 26th 2018.
f) Launch Date:
Monday 26th November 2018
f) Possible Revenue Streams:
There are going to be a limited amount of ways that I am going to be able to make money to begin with. However, with these limited amount of ways, I am going to make sure that they are used to the fullest extent.
The first way of making money on the website is through the Membership. This is going to cost £7.99 a month. This is going to be able to be cancelled at any point. If someone were to cancel their membership, they will still have access to the perks for the rest of the month.
The second way of making money on the website is going to be from advertisements. I am going to be contacting companies, seeing if any small companies would make a contract allowing them to advertise their product on my website. This is going to bring money into the website and it is going to be a fair contract as there is a fair amount of room on my website which is designated for advertising.
g) Budget:
The budget for the creation of this website is going to range from £7 - £40 a month by a hosting company. To have someone do the coding costs around £50 - £100 and hour which is a huge part of the budget. The average working hours per week is 35, so 35 hours x £50 could cost £1750 per week.
h) Legal/Ethical Issues:
The first legal issues for this website would be that people might think it is a copy of their website and claim it for copyright. Secondly, another legal issue would be that someone thinks that a part of a lesson is inappropriate, then they might find that an issue and do something which is going to effect the website in a negative way.
Ethical issues might be that if someone did not realise that cookies were used on the website then they might find it offensive and an ethical issues that someone is using them to help refine searches and lesson types on the website. Another ethical issues for the website is that someones parents might not like the idea that their child is learning things from a website rather than going out to a course or something in person to learn it. They might find that wrong and that would be another ethical issue.
i) Privacy/Security:
For my website, I am going to have a log in screen. This allows everyone on the website to keep what lessons that they are learning to themselves. This is going to stop them worrying that someone might find it funny or offensive that they are leaning a specific subject. This gives the user comfort when using the website as they will know that they have the privacy of the website and no one is going to be able to get to their account. The log in screen is going to have a username and a password. It is a very simplistic design for a log in, however it is very effective as no one is going to know the password apart from the user. Also, when you are on the website and you feel like you want to change your password, it is going to ask for your old password. This is going to prevent anyone who might have managed to get onto the user's account being able to change the password. This is a security measure that is going to make the user feel more comfortable when using the website with their privacy settings.

k) Detailed Information as why the Target Audience will find it easy to navigate around the website:
The Target Audience is going to be able to navigate my website with ease. This is due to the simplicity of the design. My entire website is labelled well enough for anyone to read including my target audience. Also, my website follows the simplistic design that many websites use which allows users of my target audience to understand as they are use to the layout and design. For example, my target audience is going to understand how to navigate around my website easier than a 50+ person is going to be able to. This is because my target audience is going to be use to the layout and design, therefore finding it easy to navigate and understand. For example, a current trend within websites for my target audience at the moment is Ultra-minimalism. This is where minimalism is taken to the extreme. my website follows this trend very well by having a very simplistic design and the layout is very clear without having anything blocking the way or being distracted in the background. Furthermore, I made sure my website included Bold Typography. The reason I made sure that this was on my website is because it is also a current trend for websites, for my target audience, to have on them.
My main home page will have a header at the top of the page with many tabs along it. These tabs are going to be clearly labelled with a clear font. This allows my target audience to read what that tab is about with ease. The tabs I am going to have are the following: Contact Us, About, The Teachers, Our Services and Profile. When the user clicks on any of these tabs, they are going to have a pop down which they are able to click, however it will give them the ability to understand what that tab has in it if you click it. The idea of having a tab section at the top of the page is so that the user does not struggle with how to find something on the website. Overall, my website is very easy to understand, therefore allowing my target audience to navigate around the website without and hassle.
